St. Ambrose recognizes six on Senior Night

St. Ambrose recognized six players on its Senior Night Thursday. Nick Fox, Jesse Moreno, Matt Pettke, Jake Powers, Dan Rice and Colin Teresi were celebrated before the Bees' match against Judson.

Unfortunately, SAU couldn't follow up with a win, losing to the division-leading Eagles 25-17, 25-14, 26-24.

The Bees couldn't keep pace in the opening two sets as Judson (16-5, 9-2 CCAC) totaled 24 kills and just six hitting errors in grabbing a 2-0 lead.

But St. Ambrose (6-19, 5-7 CCAC) upped its play in the third. But it didn't look that way in the early stages of the set.

Trailing 15-8, the Bees put together a six-point run. Charlie Flynn, Cael Anderson and Rice had kills, and Rice and Fox combined for two blocks to help SAU climb to within a point at 15-14.

Judson recovered to go back in front 18-14, but that didn't slow St. Ambrose. The Bees followed with a 6-1 spurt with kills from Jon Guch and Fox helping SAU take a 20-19 lead.

Again down two points at 23-21, a block from Flynn and Guch and another from Flynn and Rice knotted the score at 23-23. But after tying the score at 24-24 on an Eagle hitting error, the Bees would not score again, ultimately falling in three.

Rice and Fox led St. Ambrose with seven kills apiece. Guch had five, Powers and Flynn each had three, and Richard Reed and Anderson each put down two.

Anthony Anderson led the team with 17 assists while adding seven digs. Ethan Chausse finished with 10 assists. Dillon Markley picked up a team-best nine digs.

Fox, the CCAC's reigning defender of the week, recorded seven total blocks in the loss.

Playing for a spot in the upcoming CCAC Tournament, St. Ambrose will close the regular season Tuesday at Cardinal Stritch.
