SAU stumbles at Trinity Christian

Trinity Christian hit at a .313 clip to defeat St. Ambrose 25-15, 25-22, 25-21 Tuesday night in Palos Heights, Ill.

The Trolls (12-7, 5-4 CCAC) jumped to early leads in all three sets. And other than the first set, when TCC had 13 kills and just four hitting errors, and used an early 6-0 run to take control, SAU battled back but came up a little short.

In the second set, Trinity Christian won the first three points and led 5-1. Back-to-back blocks from both Nick Fox and Ethan Chausse ignited a four-point Bee run that knotted the score at 5-5. The set remained tied as late as 18-18 following a Richard Reed kill. But consecutive TCC points gave the Trolls the lead for good as they took a two-set advantage.

St. Ambrose fell behind 4-1 early in the third. SAU battled to within a single point on three different occasions but could never pull even. Down 22-20 on a Jon Guch kill, the Bees watched the Trolls win two straight points before TCC closed out the match two points later.

Guch led St. Ambrose with 11 kills. Fox had seven and Reed finished with five. Chausse was credited with 24 assists. Reed picked up four digs, while Chausse, Jesse Moreno and Dillon Markley each had three.

SAU, now 4-16 overall and 3-6 in the CCAC, will host Viterbo Thursday night.
