Bees defeat Central Christian at Jamestown Invite

St. Ambrose hit the road to compete in the Jamestown Invitational in Jamestown, N.D., Friday and Saturday. The Bees picked up one win in the two-day event.

SAU opened play Friday against host and No. 10-ranked Jamestown. The Bees put up a fight before falling 25-21, 25-11, 25-15.

Dan Rice led the team with seven kills. Nick Fox finished with six, Jon Guch had five and Mikolaj Zielonka added three. Colin Teresi and Dillon Markley put down two kills apiece.

Ethan Chausse had a team-leading 25 assists. Jesse Moreno recorded five digs.

The Bees bounced back with a dominating 25-10, 25-16, 25-16 win over Central Christian (Kan.). St. Ambrose finished with 26 kills and 13 hitting errors while Central Christian had 11 total kills and 27 errors.

Rice again led the way, this time with eight kills. Charlie Flynn posted six kills and Guch finished with four. Richard Reed (three), Teresi (two), Zander Larson (two) and Cael Anderson (one) also collected kills.

Chausse (12) and Anthony Anderson (nine) combined for 21 of the team's 24 assists. Markley had a team-best seven digs. Anderson, Ryan Hudson, Kendrett Green, Kyle Schelonka and Chausse each had multiple digs in the win.

"Well we played our first ranked opponent and competed well. But we definitely saw some things we need to work on," SAU head coach Ray Green said. "We were able to get court experience for everyone in the second match Friday, which will help as the season progresses. Overall, it was a good day."

Saturday, the Bees dropped 3-1 decisions to Dordt and Kansas Wesleyan.

St. Ambrose took the opening set in a 21-25, 25-22, 25-11, 25-16 loss to Dordt.

Zielonka had a team-high eight kills. Cael Anderson had six kills, and Rice and Fox had five apiece. Reed was credited with 26 assists. Zielonka also led the team with seven digs. Teresi and Reed each picked up six and Cael Anderson and Moreno added five each.

The tournament concluded with a 25-18, 19-25, 25-23, 28-26 loss to Kansas Wesleyan.

Fox registered 13 kills. Cael Anderson had nine, Rice put down eight and Zielonka finished with six. Reed passed out 39 assists and Moreno led the team with 11 digs.

St. Ambrose, now 4-7 overall, will visit Augustana next Tuesday.
