Fighting Bees falter in match against Trolls

St. Ambrose's postseason hopes took a hit Tuesday night as the team fell at home to Trinity Christian 25-22, 26-24, 25-16.

The Bees played well, totaling 36 kills and a .329 hitting percentage, but they couldn't keep pace with a Trolls team that recorded 49 kills and hit at a .473 clip.

After dropping a tight first set, SAU's best chance came in the second. The Bees had a set point at 24-23 to even the match, butu the Trolls responded with three straight kills to steal the set.

Trinity Christian (14-4, 7-3 CCAC) carried that momentum into the third, winning 11 of the first 14 points to close out the match 3-0.

Jason Bageanis led St. Ambrose with 13 kills. He had just three errors to finish with a .476 hitting percentage. Skyler Marushige hit .500 with 11 kills and just two hitting errors. Richard Reed and Nick Fox each had three kills.

Jake Snyder had 24 assists. Marushige also chipped in with five assists and a team-best four digs.

SAU, now 9-15 overall and 4-7 in the conference, will visit Judson Thursday.
