Bees get two more wins to close out WPU Invite

St. Ambrose kept up its recent strong play by winning two more at the William Penn Invitational Saturday. The victories over Kansas Wesleyan and Central Christian are the Bees' fifth and sixth wins in their last seven matches.

SAU had no problem with Kansas Wesleyan, defeating the Coyotes 25-7, 25-13, 25-17. The Bees finished with 35 kills and totaled just 10 hitting errors, good for a .379 hitting percentage.

Eight different players had multiple kills. Skyler Marushige led the way with eight over just two sets and Jason Bageanis had seven. Jake Snyder and Matt Pettke each put down four kills, and Jake PowersDan Rice and Jeramie Gutierrez had three kills apiece. Colin Teresi registered two.

Snyder was credited with 25 assists and four of the team's nine aces. Gutierrez had three. Zack Denton had a team-best three digs, while Powers, Teresi, Snyder, Marushige, Rice, Richard Reed and Jesse Moreno each had two. Bageanis had three blocks and Mikolaj Zielonka was one of three Bees with two blocks.

St. Ambrose was equally impressive in its 25-17, 25-19, 25-15 win over Central Christian to close out the two-day event. After collecting 10 kills and 10 hitting errors in the opening set, the Bees had 29 kills and just 12 errors over the final two sets.

Bageanis reached double figures with 10 kills. Gutierrez added nine. Snyder finished with seven kills, a team-best 26 assists and six digs. Powers and Teresi each had four kills. Denton led all players with 10 digs.

SAU, now 8-10 overall after an 0-6 start, returns home to host No. 10 Lourdes Sunday at 2 p.m.
