St. Ambrose drops four-setter to Augustana

St. Ambrose fell to 0-3 after a 25-15, 18-25, 25-18, 25-23 loss to Augustana Tuesday night at Lee Lohman Arena.

Down 2-1, the Bees nearly forced a decisive fifth set. Trailing 20-16 in the fourth, SAU got kills from Jeramie GutierrezJason Bageanis and Mikolaj Zielonka as part of a four-point run to tie the set at 20-20. The teams traded the next six points to forge a 23-23 tie. That was it for the Bees as the Vikings (1-2) won the next two points to close out the match.

Gutierrez led St. Ambrose with 10 kills. Bageanis had nine and Zielonka and Drew Hamlin added four apiece. 

Jason Scribner had a team-high 27 assists. Zielonka (10), Gutierrez (eight), Scribner (eight) and Zack Denton (five) paced the team in digs. 

SAU returns to conference play Thursday by hosting Judson at 7 p.m.
