St. Ambrose unable to complete comeback in loss at Judson

St. Ambrose's rally came up a little short. The Bees battled back from a two-set deficit to only fall in five 25-20, 25-23, 24-26, 21-25, 16-14 at Judson Saturday. The loss snapped a four-match winning streak.

After dropping the first two sets, SAU erased a late two-point deficit at 22-20 in the third to get back into the match. The Bees then led throughout the last half of the fourth to force a decisive fifth set.

Neither team led by more than two points in the fifth.

The Bees took a 13-11 lead on a Jake Snyder kill and had the first match point at 14-13 on a Jaylen Clark kill. But they would not score again. Judson (9-14, 2-9 CCAC) put down back-to-back kills to earn a match point, and an Eagle block ended the Bees' comeback.

Clark led St. Ambrose with 18 kills. Jason Bageanis had 13 kills and Skyler Marushige added 11. Nick Fox finished with four. Snyder, Jeramie Gutierrez and Drew Hamlin each recorded three kills.

Snyder was credited with 46 assists and 12 digs. Avery Clark had a team-best 13 digs while Harry Khaira picked up 11.

SAU, now 10-13 overall and 4-5 in the conference, will host Viterbo Thursday in the team's final home match of the season.
