SAU earns wins over Lincoln, Morningside

St. Ambrose moved its home tri-match to Bettendorf, Iowa, and picked up wins over Lincoln and Morningside Friday night.

Giving way to the NAIA Competitive Dance and Cheer Championships, the Bees earned straight-set wins at the TBK Bank Sports Complex. SAU defeated Lincoln 25-15, 25-14, 25-19 before beating Morningside 25-18, 25-19, 25-21.

In the first match of the day, St. Ambrose dominated an undermanned Lincoln team with nine different Bees registering at least one kill.

Nick Fox led the way with six kills, while Drew Hamlin and Jason Bageanis each had four. Skyler Marushige, Harry Khaira, Dan Rice and Jeramie Gutierrez finished with two apiece.

Jake Snyder picked up 11 assists while playing just the first two sets. Khaira was credited with eight.

Ricardo Ubior (four) and Avery Clark (three) led the team in digs, and Ubior, Clark, Khaira and Colin Teresi each had two of the Bees' 12 aces.

St. Ambrose then used 10 kills from Marushige and seven each from Fox and Bageanis to take down Morningside in three sets.

Jaylen Clark had five kills and Snyder and Hamlin each had four. SAU finished with 39 kills while Morningside totaled just 22.

Snyder led all players with 31 assists and three aces. Ubior had seven digs, while Avery Clark, Hamlin and Snyder each had six.

In the night's other match, Morningside defeated Lincoln 25-18, 25-10, 25-15.

The Bees return to CCAC play Tuesday when they host Cardinal Stritch.
