SAU falls in straight sets to No. 11 Cougars

St. Ambrose struggled to mount much of an attack in a 25-18, 25-16, 25-15 loss at No. 11 Saint Xavier Thursday night.

The Bees totaled just 23 kills against 20 hitting errors. The team had more attack errors than kills in each of the first two sets.

SAU's best chance came in the second set. The Bees stayed close throughout the set and trailed just 18-16 following a Jason Bageanis kill. But that was it as Saint Xavier (16-1, 9-0 CCAC) ran off seven straight points to close out the set.

Bageanis led St. Ambrose with nine kills. Drew Hamlin and Nick Fox each had four and Skyler Marushige added three.

Jake Snyder had a team-best 20 assists and added four digs. Marushige was credited with five digs.

The Bees return to action Friday by hosting a tri-match at the TBK Bank Complex in Bettendorf, Iowa. SAU will face Lincoln at 3 p.m. and Morningside at 7 p.m. Lincoln and Morningside will square off at 5 p.m.
