Bees defeat Eagles for first victory

St. Ambrose found the win column on Thursday night defeating Judson 20-25, 25-21, 25-15, 25-19 in Davenport.

After dropping the first set, the Bees came back to win the next three.

With the second set tied at 4-4, a Jeramie Gutierrez kill gave SAU the lead for good. Jaylen Clark ended the set with a kill of his own.

The Bees grabbed an early lead in the third set forcing the Eagles to take a timeout after back-to-back kills from Skyler Marushige and Gutierrez at 9-3. Kills by Jason Bageanis, Colin Teresi, Nick Fox, and a service ace from Avery Clark helped put the set out of reach.

The fourth set was a back and forth affair. At 15-15, St. Ambrose went on a 6-0 run that included a kill from Gutierrez, a Judson error, three straight blocks, and a kill by Bageanis. Jake Snyder finished the match with a kill.

Gutierrez led the Bees in kills with 16. Snyder put up a match-best 42 assists to go along with four kills and two blocks. Ricardo Ubior led the team in digs with eight, and SAU put up 10 team blocks.

St. Ambrose will take on University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis and Clarke University next on Saturday in Davenport.
