St. Ambrose falls to No. 3 Missouri Baptist

St. Ambrose came up empty in its bid to upset No. 3 Missouri Baptist Thursday afternoon. The Bees fell in three sets 25-19, 25-20, 25-19 to drop to 0-5 on the season.

SAU was behind just 15-14 midway through the opening set and trailed 19-16 after a Nick Fox kill. But the Spartans followed with two straight points as part of a larger 6-3 run to take the first set.

A block from Fox and Skyler Marushige had the Bees within 17-16 in the third. Missouri Baptist (4-0) won four points in a row, preventing any St. Ambrose comeback hopes.

Avery Clark and Jason Bageanis led the Bees with six kills each. Fox, Marushige and Jaylen Clark each recorded four kills.

Harry Khaira led the team with 21 assists, while Ricardo Ubior picked up a team-high nine digs.

SAU will play three matches as part of Grand View's Molten Invitational this weekend. The Bees will face Dordt and Ottawa (Ariz.) Friday afternoon before facing No. 8 Jamestown Saturday at noon.
