Reemtsma, Mathis named CCAC Athletes of the Week

CHICAGO --- Top 10 national performances by Will Reemtsma (Davenport, Iowa) and Josh Mathis (Geneseo, Ill.) have enabled St. Ambrose University to sweep the latest round of Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week awards, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Reemtsma, a sophomore, placed second among 27 competitors in the 400-meter hurdles at the Indiana Tech Warrior Open on Saturday to claim CCAC Track Athlete of the Week honors. His time of 53.8 seconds was not only an NAIA "A" standard mark, but also the fastest time in the CCAC and the fifth-fastest time in the nation this year.

Mathis used a pair of top three efforts at the same Warrior Open to garner the league's Field Athlete of the Week plaudits. The senior won the nine-person discus event with a throw of 160 feet, 6 inches and placed third among 27 competing in the shot put with a distance of 54 feet.

Mathis broke a school record that had stood for eight years in the shot put with his NAIA "A" standard throw being the second-best mark in the conference and eighth-best in the nation. In the discus, his "B" standard toss currently sits No. 1 in the league and No. 7 in the nation.
