SAU drops 4-3 decision to Grand View

Despite winning the doubles point, St. Ambrose wasn't able to hang on in singles play as the Bees fell to Grand View 4-3 at the QC Tennis Club in Moline, Ill., Friday afternoon.

SAU earned the doubles point as the No. 2 team of Gianfranco Garcia Medina and Jaime Febres and the No. 3 team of Connor Leibforth and Marcus Lang each won 6-1. The top team of Brian Lelm and Gabriel Guimaray fell 6-4.

But the Bees were only able to win two of the six singles matches.

Garcia needed a third-set super-tiebreaker in his 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 10-8 win at No. 3. Febres cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 4.

At No. 6, Cade Timmons fell 1-6, 6-0, 10-7. Lelm and Guimaray each lost in straight sets at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Forced to play an 8-game pro set due to time constraints, Leibforth lost 8-4 at No. 5.

The Bees, now 7-4 on the year, will play their first of three Spring Break matches next Saturday in Hilton Head, S.C.
