SAU falls to Judson in CCAC Tournament

A season that saw St. Ambrose post its most victories since the 2014-15 season came to a close as the Bees fell at Judson 4-0 in the opening round of the CCAC Tournament Tuesday.

Gabriel Guimaray and Connor Leibforth lost in straight sets at No. 3 and No. 5 singles, respectively. And Paulo Vitor was forced to retire down a set at No. 1 allowing the Eagles to advance in the tournament.

SAU's Brian Lelm was down a set but leading 5-3 in the second when his No. 2 singles match was stopped. Gianfranco Garcia won a tiebreaker 7-3 in the opening set and was knotted at 1-1 in the second when his match was called at No. 4. Bennet Piotrowski dropped the first set 6-4 at No. 6 singles.

That came after the Bees dropped the doubles point. Guimaray and Garcia fell 6-2 at No. 2 and Bennet and Greyson Piotrowski lost 6-3 at No. 3. The No. 1 team of Vitor and Lelm was tied at 3-3 when the doubles point was decided.

St. Ambrose finished the year with a 10-13 record. The team had won only eight duals over the previous four seasons combined. It was the most wins for the program since the 2014-15 team finished 10-8.
