Bees get 4-1 win over Roosevelt on Senior Day

St. Ambrose closed the regular season with its 10th win of the year as the Bees defeated Roosevelt 4-1 at the Quad-City Tennis Club in Moline, Ill., Saturday afternoon.

On a day when the team honor Bennet Piotrowski on Senior Day, SAU won four singles matches after dropping the doubles point.

Piotrowski and Gianfranco Garcia each survived a difficult first set in their straight-set victories. Piotrowski wno 7-5, 6-1 at No. 4 singles and Garcia prevailed 7-6 (9-7), 7-5 at No. 3. Greyson Piotrowski (No. 5) and Connor Leibforth (No. 6) each won by forfeit.

Brian Lelm was down a set and trailing 4-3 in the second set of his match at No. 1 singles and Gabriel Guimaray was down 0-6, 6-4, 4-3 at No. 2 when St. Ambrose clinched the team win.

The Bees lost the doubles point. The No. 1 team of Lelm and Bennet Piotrowski and the No. 2 team of Guimaray and Garcia each dropped 6-4 decisions. Greyson Piotrowski and Leibforth won by forfeit at No. 3.

SAU, now 10-12 overall and 2-4 in the CCAC, will compete in the conference tournament next week.
