St. Ambrose grabs first CCAC win by defeating USF

The bottom of the lineup helped deliver the first conference win of the season for St. Ambrose. The Bees earned singles wins at No. 4, 5 and 6 to defeat St. Francis (Ill.) 4-2 in Lockport, Ill., Saturday night.

All three SAU singles wins were claimed in straight sets. Gianfranco Garcia won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4; Bennet Piotrowski won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5; and Greyson Piotrowski won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6.

Gabriel Guimaray was leading 5-3 in the third at No. 3 singles when his match was stopped after St. Ambrose had clinched the dual win.

The Bees also swept all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point.

Guimaray and Garcia had the biggest struggle, pulling out a 7-5 win at No. 2. The Piotrowskis teamed for a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles. The No. 1 team of Paulo Vitor and Brian Lelm cruised to a 6-2 victory.

SAU (9-11, 1-3 CCAC) will visit No. 19 Cardinal Stritch Wednesday.
