SAU gets four singles wins to outlast Grand View 4-3

The bottom of the lineup came through to lift St. Ambrose to a 4-3 win over Grand View Monday afternoon at the Quad City Tennis Club in Moline, Ill. The Bees got wins at No. 3, 4, 5 and 6 singles to prevail.

The dual came down to a third-set super-tiebreaker at No. 3 singles. SAU's Gabriel Guimaray earned a 6-4, 5-7, 10-8 win, which ultimately decided the meet.

The other St. Ambrose singles wins came in straight sets. Gianfranco Garcia was challenged early before he cruised in the second set in his 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 4. And at No. 5, Bennet Piotrowski won 6-0, 6-2. Greyson Piotrowski won by forfeit at No. 6 singles.

Paulo Vitor fell 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) at No. 1 singles and Brian Lelm also lost in straight sets at No. 2.

The Bees lost the doubles point as Vitor and Lelm fell 6-2 at No. 1 and Guimaray and Garcia lost 6-4 at No. 2. Bennet and Greyson Piotrowski won the No. 3 doubles match by forfeit.

St. Ambrose, now 8-8 overall, will visit Olivet Nazarene Wednesday.
