SAU earns 6-1 win over Simpson
Taking five of the six singles matches helped St. Ambrose to a 6-1 win over Simpson at the Quad City Tennis Club in Moline, Ill., Thursday afternoon.
All five singles wins came in straight sets. Paulo Vitor led the way, dropping just a single game in his 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles.
The other four Bees also won comfortably.
Brian Lelm won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2. Gabriel Guimaray was pushed in the opening set of his 7-5, 6-0 win at No. 3. Gianfranco Garcia and Bennet Piotrowski each just lost five games. Garcia won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4, and at No. 5, Piotrowski was victorious 6-3, 6-2.
Vitor and Lelm also cruised to a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles. Guimaray and Garcia escaped with a 7-5 win at No. 2. The No. 3 team of Bennet and Greyson Piotrowski fell 6-4. Connor Leibforth dropped his singles match 6-3, 6-2.
Playing an exhibition singles match, Marcus Lang won 6-1.
The Bees, now 6-4 overall, will begin their Spring Break trip in Hilton Head, S.C., on Mar. 19 against Wooster.
