Third-set breakers the difference in loss to Dutch

Five of the six singles matches went to third-set super tiebreakers in a dual at Central College Friday afternoon. The Bees won two, but the Dutch took three in winning the dual 7-2.

The two St. Ambrose wins came at No. 1 and No. 3 singles. Paulo Vitor won at the top spot 6-3, 4-6, 10-7 while Gabriel Guimaray survived in the most competitive of all the singles matches 7-6, 6-7, 11-9 at No. 3.

The other three matches that went to a third set breaker featured Bees rallying after dropping the first set only to fall in three. Brian Lelm lost 6-1, 6-7, 7-5 at No. 2 singles, Gianfranco Garcia fell 6-4, 2-6, 11-7 at No. 4, and Connor Leibforth dropped a 6-1, 4-6, 10-7 decision at No. 6.

Bennet Piotrowski fell in straight sets at No. 5 singles.

Central (3-4) also swept doubles play. Guimaray and Garcia lost 8-6 at No. 2 in the tightest of the doubles matches.

St. Ambrose, now 5-4 on the year, will host Simpson Thursday at the Quad-City Tennis Club in Moline, Ill.
