SAU takes season opener at Wisconsin Lutheran

St. Ambrose got its fall season off to a great start with a 7-2 win at Wisconsin Lutheran Friday afternoon. The Bees won two of the three doubles matches before claiming five of the six singles matches.

The top doubles team of Paulo Vitor and Brian Lelm easily won its match 8-1. Gianfranco Garcia and Bennet Piotrowski were nearly equally as dominant in their 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles. The No. 3 team of Greyson Piotrowski and Connor Leibforth fell 8-6.

The top of the SAU lineup cruised in singles play. The top four Bees each won in straight sets.

Vitor and Lelm each dropped just four games in their wins at No. 1 and 2, respectively. Vitor earned a 6-2, 6-2 win while Lelm won 6-3, 6-1. 

Garcia cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 and Bennet Piotrowski earned a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles. Leibforth, playing at No. 6, was extended to a third-set super-tiebreaker in his 2-6, 6-1, 10-7 victory. 

The Bees will make their home debut Monday against Loras at Davenport West High School.
