Repeat champions at Liberal Arts Championships

The Bees competed at the Liberal Arts Championships in Hobart, Ind. Having much success in the past, SAU seems to be repeating history. A huge week of success was in store for the St. Ambrose swim and dive teams. Both SAU swim and dive teams earned all conference honors as well as smashed school records. 

Through 40 events, St. Ambrose remained on top with a significant gap. The women's swim and dive team placed first overall with a total team score of 598 points. Asbury University earned second with a score of 451, with University of Minnesota-Morris rounding out the third spot with 339 points. Illinois Institute of Technology (293) and Williams Baptist (8) rounded out the last two spots. 

SAU men's swim and dive team blew their competition out of the water with a total team score of 719 overall points throughout the competition. Illinois Institute of Technology placed second with 530 points while third and fourth place being separated by one point. University of Minnesota-Morris (226.50) and Asbury University (225.50) were in a close race. Williams Baptist University ended the competition with 78 total team points.  

Both SAU swim and dive teams earned all conference honors as well as smashed school records. A total of five Liberal Arts Championship meet records were broken for the swim and dive teams. Not only were meet records broken but school records were crushed as well. 

Brett Jones, Egoitz Munoz Moreno, Mikhi Hassim, and Cory Werrett of the men's 200 free relay and the men's 200 medley relay earned two meet records and two school records with times of 1:22:72 and 1:31:24. Nolan Deats had a time of 22:58 in the men's 50m butterfly which was good enough for a meet record. On the women's side of things, Bridget O'Grady (women's 50 breaststroke) and Irene Artabe (women's 50 butterfly) earned meet records as well. O'Grady swam a time of 30:15 while Artabe swam a time of 26:77.

M. Hassmin, B. Jones, E. Munoz, and C. Werrett of the 400 medley relay earned a school swim and dive record with a time of 3:21:78. Jonas Friess, M. Hassim, B. Jones, and C. Werrett of the men's 400 free relay earned a time of 3:03:12 which qualified for a school record. Werrett earned three individual school records in the men's 50 breast, men's 100 free, and 50 free with a times of 26:37, 45:66, and 20:75. Jonas Friess joined in on the action by earning a school record in the men's 200 free with a time of 1:40:88. Marat Usov earned a time of 4:03:62 in the men's 400 IM which was quick enough for a school record. Bram Mess of the 1m diving earned a score of 365.55 for a school record. E. Munoz chipped in an individual school record in the 50 back with a time of 23:52. For the women's side, Anna Gute of the 50 free swam for a school record with a time of 24:45. In the women's 200 free relay, Irene Artabe, Grace Bobeldyk, Molly Duehr, and Anna Gute raced for a time of 1:39:24 which was good for a school record as well. Bridget O'Grady swam the women's 200 breast for an individual school record with a time of 2:23:74. The last school record broken was by Bryn Kiley who swam distance in the 1000 free, earning a time of 10:53:47.
