SAU takes dual from Morningside

St. Ambrose cruised to dual victories at Morningside Saturday. The women won 139-59 and the men earned a 135-67 victory.

The Bee women won eight of the nine individual events and both relays among numerous top-three efforts.

Grace Bobeldyk and Bryn Kiley each won a pair of events. Bobeldyk won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:02.49 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:37.71. Hannah Blackmore was fifth in the 200 free and Amber Warak placed fourth in the 500 free.

Kiley won the 100-yard freestyle in 57.77 seconds, edging teammate Anna Gute (57.79). Schyon Drolema was third and Marin Powell fourth. Kiley also won the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:19.45. Annaliese Bowser was third in 12:31.51.

The Bees swept the freestyle events as Gute won the 50 free in 26.03 seconds. Drolema was third in 26.56 and Powell took fourth.

SAU took the top four spots in the 100-yard butterfly with Leyre Antonanzas winning in 1:01.31. Irene Artabe was second in 1:01.46 while Bobeldyk placed third and Bridget O'Grady fourth. O'Grady won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:10.05. Kate Henson (1:12.41) was runner-up and Blackmore place fourth. Molly Duehr was the other winner, taking the 200-yard individual medley in 2:25.43. Rylie Steinkamp was third in 2:32.30. Emily Henson added a third-place showing in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:15.12.

St. Ambrose also won both relays. Antonanzas, Artabe, Kiley and Duehr won the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:52.01. Drolema, Powell, Bowser and Steinkamp were third. The 200-yard medley relay team of Artabe, O'Grady, Antonanzas and Gute won in 1:52.87. Duehr, Warak, Emily Henson and Kate Henson finished third.

The men were nearly as dominant, claiming individual victories in seven events.

Cory Werrett and Juan Gomez were dual-event winners. Werrett won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.65 seconds and the 100-yard breaststroke in 59.45 seconds. Brett Jones (22.40) was third and Carter Gaber fourth in the 50 free. Tayden Blair was runner-up in the 100 breast in 1:03.82. Nikolai Valencia took fourth and Ben Patterson fifth. Valencia (2:08.54) and Blair (2:11.22) were also second and third, respectively, in the 200-yard individual medley.

Gomez won both the 500-yard freestyle (4:58.07) and the 100-yard butterfly (52.38). Jonathan Rollwa's time of 5:02.09 was good for third in the 500 free. Jones was third in the 100 fly in 56.99 seconds and Khalil Ruiz finished fourth.

SAU had the top four finishers in the 100-yard backstroke, led by Gaber's winning time of 55.81 seconds. Ryan Safta was second in 56.17 seconds, Michael Taylor took third in 57.68 seconds and Gonzalo Saenz was fourth.

Rollwa won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:48.68. Taylor was third in 1:54.44 and Saenz finished fifth. Benny Zarhin touched the wall in 48.44 seconds to win the 100-yard freestyle. Lucas Ascua was third in 51.37 seconds while Skylar Drolema placed fourth and Tate Kuennen was fifth.

Like the women, the Bee men won both relays. Gaber, Blair, Gomez and Zarhin took the 200-yard medley relay in 1:40.07. Safta, Valencia, Ruiz and Drolema were third. Rollwa, Jones, Zarhin and Werrett took the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:17.64. Ascua, Saenz, Taylor and Henry Van Dyke finished third.

St. Ambrose will next compete in the Luther Invitational Nov. 17-18 in Decorah, Iowa.
