Bees battle Truman State

The Bees wrapped up a busy month with a dual at Truman State Saturday. The men came out victorious 115-87 while the women fell 138-67.

The SAU men won five individual events and both relays. Cory Werrett was a double winner, taking the 50-yard freestyle in 21.28 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in 48.31 seconds. Egoitz Munoz Moreno (22.53) was third in the 50 free and Benny Zarhin (48.85) was runner-up in the 100 free.

Mikhi Hassim and Walter de Jongh finished one-two in the 100-yard breaststroke. Hassim won in 59.30 seconds while de Jongh was second in 1:01.79. Marat Usov touched the wall in 4:18.20 to win the 400-yard individual medley. Luke Sproule was second in 4:24.24 and Garret Sims placed fifth. The other Bee champion was Jonas Friess, who took the 500-yard freestyle in 4:55.86. Jonathan Rollwa was fourth and Sproule fifth.

Three Bees scored team points in three other events. Friess was runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:46.47. Juan Gomez was third in 1:49.59 and Panagiotis Pappous took fifth. Munoz Moreno was second in the 100-yard backstroke in 55.19 seconds. Michael Taylor and Sims were fourth and fifth, respectively. Hassim was also second in the 100-yard butterfly in 50.82 seconds. Sebastian Pereira and Javier Santiago were fourth and fifth. Rollwa added a third-place effort in the 1650-yard freestyle in 17:59.53.

Usov, Gomez, Zarhin and Friess won the 800-yard freestyle relay in 7:11.05. Rollwa, Tate Kuennen, Pappous and Sproule were third. Munoz Moreno, Thomas Noller, Hassim and Zarhin claimed the 400-yard medley relay in 3:34.85. Carter Prull, Pereira, Santiago and Werrett finished third.

For the women, Irene Artabe and Riley Loeffler finished second-third in the 100-yard backstroke. Artabe was runner-up in 1:03.29 and Loeffler came in with a time of 1:08.97. Caitlin Pieroni was third.

Grace Bobeldyk was second in the 1650-yard freestyle in a time of 18:54.96. Hannah Blackmore took fifth. Bobeldyk was also part of a three-four-five finish for St. Ambrose in the 100-yard freestyle. Anna Gute was third in 55.90 seconds, Bobeldyk was next in 57.60 and Molly Duehr was fifth. Gute was also runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.63 seconds. Libby Moses earned a team point with her sixth-place finish.

Leyre Antonanzas was second in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.07. Bridget O'Grady and Emily Henson took fourth and fifth, respectively. O'Grady was second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.37. Kate Henson placed ffith. Bryn Kiley grabbed third place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:01.06. Riley Loeffler was fourth and Madeline Piper fifth. Kiley was also fourth in the 500-yard freestyle. Pieroni was fourth and Amber Warak fifth in the 400-yard individual medley.

Artabe, O'Grady, Antonanzas and Gute won the 400-yard medley relay in 4:06.53. Loeffler, Kate Henson, Emily Henson and Duehr were third. Bobeldyk, Antonanzas, Artabe and Kiley finished second in the 800-yard freestyle relay in 8:24.89. Warak, Piper, Pieroni and Annaliese Bowser were third.

St. Ambrose returns to the pool next Saturday with a dual at Morningside.
