Bees take down Quincy in home dual

Behind a total of 10 individual champions, St. Ambrose defeated Quincy in a dual at the Davenport Central Natatorium Friday. The Bee women won 128-81 while the men earned a 115-102 victory.

Grace Bobeldyk and Cory Werrett each won a pair of events. Bobeldyk won the women's 200-yard freestyle in 2:01.23 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:25.11. Bryn Kiley was runner-up in the 200 free, finishing in 2:01.98. Annaliese Bowser was third in the 500 free in 5:56.16. Werrett won both men's freestyle sprints, taking the 50-yard free in 21.17 seconds and the 100 free in 46.78 seconds. Brett Jones (22.06) was third in the 50 while Benny Zarhin (47.52) was second in the 100.

Also on the women's side, Leyre Antonanzas won the 200-yard backstroke in a winning time of 2:13.23. Irene Artabe was right on her heels, claiming second in 2:14.68. The Bees also finished 1-2 in the 200-yard breaststroke with Bridget O'Grady winning in 2:30.50 and Kate Henson placing second in 2:39.21. Kait Zucco won the 1-meter diving with a score of 192.40.

Rylie Steinkamp was runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle in 26.40 seconds. She also placed third in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:36.67. Emily Henson was second in 2:35.83. O'Grady was second in the 1000-yard freestyle in 12:16.62 and Hannah Blackmore (13:07.53) placed third. Anna Gute was runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle in 56.12 seconds while Kiley (56.44) took third.

St. Ambrose also won both relays. The team of Gute, Artabe, Bobeldyk and Kiley won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:43.41. Schyon Drolema, Marin Powell, Steinkamp and Audra Shoop were second. Antonanzas, O'Grady, Artabe and Gute won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:51.75. Amanda Beuth, Kate Henson, Libby Moses and Madeline Piper were third.

For the men, Marat Usov touched the wall in 1:57.63 to win the 200-yard butterfly. William Walker-Rozo and Javier Santiago tied for third in 2:03.93. Usov was also second in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:45.04. Jonas Friess was third in 1:45.07. Mikhi Hassim won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:12.26. Bram Mess (201.30) and Lane Otte were first and second, respectively, in the men's one-meter diving competition.

The SAU men finished second and third in four other individual events - Juan Gomez (4:56.74) and Sebastian Pereira (5:10.19) in the 500-yard freestyle, David Schneider (10:37.53) and Tate Kuennen (11:15.16) in the 1000-yard freestyle, Michael Taylor (2:03.57) and David Schneider (2:04.71) in the 200-yard backstroke, and Hassim (4:23.34) and Luke Sproule (4:25.44) in the 400-yard individual medley.

Werrett, Zarhin, Jones and Carter Gaber teamed to take second in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Egoitz Munoz Moreno, Thomas Noller, Hassim and Zarhin were runners-up in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:37.37. Gaber, Pereira, Gomez and Jones were third in 1:38.94.

The Bees will battle Truman State in Kirksville, Mo., next Saturday.
