SAU ready for postseason after taking dual from Aquinas

In its final regular season competition of the season, St. Ambrose dominated a dual against Aquinas Friday and Saturday at Davenport Central. The Bee men won 413-82 and the women won 317-126.

Leyre Antonanzas and Rylie Steinkamp each won three races for the women. Antonanzas won both the 100- and 200-yard backstroke in times of 1:00.28 and 2:08.12, respectively. Caitlin Pieroni was second in the 100 back and in both races of the 200 back. Brooklyn Pottebaum was also runner-up in the 100 back. Antonanzas won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:08.56. She and Pieroni finished 1-2 in the 400-yard individual medley. Antonanzas had a winning time of 4:35.02. Pieroni was also second in one of the 200-yard IM events.

Steinkamp took both 50-yard freestyle events. She won with times of 25.78 and 25.98 seconds. Audra Shoop and Marin Powell each had a second-place finish. Steinkamp won a 100-yard freestyle swim in 56.78 seconds. She was second in the other race. Steinkamp's other victory came in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.88).

Lauren Williams won three freestyle events. She claimed the 100-yard freestyle in 53.78 seconds, the 200 free in 1:57.95 and the 500 free in 5:17.21. Powell was runner-up in both the 100 and 200 free, while Madeline Piper was second in a second 200 free event.

Emily Hartman, who was second in the 100-yard butterfly, won both the 200-yard butterfly (2:34.63) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:25.68). Molly Duehr touched the wall first in both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.82) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:33.13). She also took second in another 200 IM.

Andrea Adam won both rounds of the 1-meter diving competion. She posted scores of 257.75 and 249.80.

The SAU women also won all five relays. Antonanzas, Shoop, Powell and Duehr won the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:42.97); Williams, Antonanzas, Duehr and Steinkamp won the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:41.64); Hartman, Antonanzas, Duehr and Williams won the 800-yard freestyle relay (8:04.48); Pieroni, Valentina Espinosa, Steinkamp and Powell won the 200-yard medley relay (1:56.32); and Antonanzas, Duehr, Steinkamp and Williams won the 400-yard medley relay (4:11.37).

Several Bees won multiple events for the St. Ambrose men. Victor Del Rio Foces led the way with four wins. He took a 50-yard freestyle race in 21.45 seconds and one of the 100-yard freestyle events in 47.02 seconds. He also won the 100-yard backstroke (52.54 seconds) and the 100-yard butterfly (53.74 seconds).

Ryan Joehl won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:45.88, and both 200-yard backstroke races in 1:56.15 and 1:57.58. Juan Gomez won the 200-yard butterfly in 1:56.51, the 500-yard freestyle in 4:45.77 and the 1650-yard freestyle in 16:15.22. Anthony Erramouspe was runner-up in the 1650. Gabe Carlson also won three events - both races of the 100-yard breaststroke (59.04 and 59.12 seconds) and one of the two 200-yard breaststroke races (2:15.47).

William Walker-Rozo won both the 200- and 400-yard individual medleys. He posted times of 2:01.27 and 4:22.61. Ben Patterson was second in the 200 IM. Like Adam, Bram Mess won both rounds of the 1-meter diving competition with scores of 214.65 and 205.70.

Brett Jones won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.28 seconds. He placed second in a second 50 free and was also second in a race of the 100-yard freestyle. Rais Hassim won the 100 free in 47.02 seconds and also took second in the 50 free. Grant Nelson won one of the 500-yard freestyles and took second in the other. Leo Edwards finished second.

Nikolai Valencia won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:18.85. Mikhi Hassim won the 100-yard butterfly in 50.29 seconds. He was also second in the 100-yard backstroke. Garret Sims took the 200-yard butterfly in 2:03.71 and was runner-up in the 400-yard individual medley. Walker-Rozo was second in a second 200 fly race.

Jaden Dydell was the runner-up in both rounds of the 200-yard breaststroke. Caleb Heiar had second-place efforts in the 200 free and 100 fly. Ryan Warrick (100 free), Truitt Landolt (200 free), Egoitz Munoz (200 back), Petter Kolaas (100 breast) and Zac Robinson (100 fly) also earned second-place finishes.

The Bees also swept the five relays. Del Rio Foces, Robinson, Warrick and Jones won the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:25.37); Heiar, Rais Hassim, Jones and Warrick won the 400-yard freestyle (3:08.29); Gomez, Joehl, Nelson and Edwards won the 800-yard freestyle relay (6:56.81); Munoz, Kolaas, Reece Powell and Robinson won the 200-yard medley relay (1:34.21); and Joehl, Carlson, Mikhi Hassim and Rais Hassim won the 400-yard medley relay (3:27.69).

St. Ambrose will next send a group to the NAIA National Championships in Columbus, Ga., Mar. 2-5.
