SAU adds dual victories over Morningside

Ranked No. 4 in the NAIA poll released earlier in the day, St. Ambrose lived up to its lofty rating by defeating Morningside 139-63 Friday in Sioux City, Iowa. The SAU men women completed the sweep, winning its dual over Morningside 126-73.

The Bee men won seven different individual events and both relays to improve to 3-1 on duals this year.

Rais Hassim won two events. He took the 100-yard butterfly in 52.80 seconds and also won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:00.41. His brother Mikhi Hassim, was the champion in the men's 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:03.38.

Juan Gomez, who was the runner-up in the 100 fly, won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:57.66. He also took second in the 200-yard freestyle. Teammates Ryan JoehlEgoitz Munoz and Truitt Landolt finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Munoz also added a third-place effort in the 100 fly.

Quincy Walker's time of 54.47 seconds was enough to win the 100-yard backstroke. Garret Sims, who also was second in the 1000-yard freestyle, was the runner up in the 100 back and Khalil Ruiz placed third.

Brett Jones and Ryan Warrick also won events for St. Ambrose. Jones won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.15 seconds and Warrick took the 100-yard freestyle in 48.52 seconds. Behind Jones, Jaden Dydell was third, Bryce Hoffer was fourth, Ike Seeman finished sixth and Blake Tyler ended eighth in the 50 free. Warrick finished ahead of Devon Gaber (third), Hoffer (fourth), Landolt (fifth), Seeman (sixth) and Tyler (seventh) in the 100 free.

William Walker-Rozo took second in the 200 IM and third in the 500 free, edging Landolt, who finished fourth. Ben Patterson added a fourth-place finish in the 100 breast.

Joehl, Rais HassimMikhi Hassim and Jones won the 400-yard medley relay in 3:37.93. Walker, Dydell, Walker-Rozo and Warrick were second and Munoz, Patterson, Ruiz and Gaber finished third. The 400-freestyle relay team of Jones, Mikhi Hassim, Joehl and Warrick won in a time of 3:14.69. Patterson, Dydell, Gaber and Hoffer were third, and Sims, Ruiz, Seeman and Tyler ended fourth.

The St. Ambrose women also won seven individual events and both relays.

Marin Powell was a two-time champion. She took the 50-yard freestyle in 26.67 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in 57.77 seconds. Audra Shoop and Lily Barraza were third and fourth, respectively, in both events.

Emily Hartman won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:23.14 with Caitlin Pieroni placing third. The two reversed order in the 100-yard backstroke with Pieroni winning in 1:07.20 and Hartman taking second.

The Bees finished 1-2 in three other events. Lauren Williams won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:00.53 with Molly Duehr taking second. Amber Warak won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:58.11. Sarah Priewe was second. And Kelly Baughman took the 100-yard butterfly in 1:04.73 as Rylie Steinkamp was the runner-up.

Victoria Thorne picked up a pair of top-four finishes, placing second in the 100-yard breaststroke and fourth in the 1000-yard freestyle.

Baughman, Duehr, Williams and Powell set a pool record with a first-place time of 3:48.56 in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Warak, Steinkamp, Shoop were second, and Barraza, Priewe, Valentina Espinosa and Thorne took fourth. Pieroni, Duehr, Baughman and Williams won the 400-yard medley relay in 4:19.37 as Warak, Espinosa, Steinkamp and Priewe ended in third.

The Bees will return to the pool Nov. 19-21 at the Coe Invitational.
