Bees win Morningside Triangular

St. Ambrose won both the men's and women's titles at the Morningside Triangular Saturday in Sioux City, Iowa.

The No. 9-ranked SAU men's team finished with 235 points to easily outdistance second-place Morningside (165 points) and Simpson (8). The Bee women earned 212 points to defeat Morningside (177) and Simpson (59).

The St. Ambrose men had winners in seven of the nine individual events. Leo Edwards and Nathan Kuszynski led the way by each winning a pair of events.

Edwards took the 200-yard freestyle title with a first-place time of 1:47.63, with Ryan Joehl placing third. Edwards also won the 100-yard freestyle in 48.98 seconds. Ryan Warrick finished third.

Kuszynski touched the wall in 53.72 seconds to win the 100-yard butterfly, edging teammate and second-place finished Caleb Gaylor. Kuszynski also led the Bees to a 1-2-3 finish in the 500-yard freestyle. His winning time was 4:56.45. Grant Nelson was second and Justin Fales took third.

St. Ambrose had the top four finishers in the 50-yard freestyle. Rais Hassim won in 21.64 seconds. Victor Del Rio Foces was the runner-up, Warrick placed third and Reece Powell was fourth. The Bees also had the top three times in the 100-yard backstroke with Joehl winning in 55.09 seconds, Quincy Walker taking second and Josh Hay placing third.

Gaylor (1:02.41) and Gabe Carlson finished first and second, respectively, in the 100-yard breaststroke. William Walker-Rozo and Garret Sims tood second and third in the 200-yard individual medley.

The Bees also claimed both relays. Walker, Carlson, Hassim and Gaylor took the 200-yard medley relay in 1:37.68. Hassim, Keagan Dolphin, Powell and Walker won the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:28.55.

The St. Ambrose women were even more dominant, winning eight of the nine individual events.

Molly Sullivan was the lone multi-event winner, taking the 200-yard freestyle in 2:05.84 and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:11.45. Emily Hartman, who won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:52.92, finished third in the 200 free. Valentina Espinosa and Victoria Thorne finished second and third, respectively, in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Brooklyn Pottebaum won the 50-yard freestyle in 26.91 seconds. She later finished second to teammate Bethany Anderson in the 100-yard backstroke. Anderson's winning time was 1:01.28.

Kelly Baughman (1:03.38) and Francesca Walker-Rozo took first and second in the 100-yard butterfly.

Molly Duehr won the 100-yard freestyle in 57.06 seconds with teammate Lily Barraza placing third. Caitlin Pieroni touched the wall first in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:25.51.

Anderson, Duehr, Baughman and Audra Shoop combined for a first-place time of 1:54.39 in the 200-yard medley relay. Pieroni, Espinosa, Walker-Rozo and Barraza took second. Duehr, Anderson, Bauman and Shoop also won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:44.22.

SAU will compete at a dual at Coe College next Saturday.
