St. Ambrose wins big on Senior Day

St. Ambrose men's soccer rolled to an 8-0 Senior Day win over Calumet St. Joseph at the St. Vincent's Athletic Complex Saturday. After the game, seniors Zach Bauer, Keaton JohnsonJustin Tackett, Jorge Brizuela, and Ryan Evans were honored for their contributions to the program.

It did not take long for SAU to open the scoring with Johnson scoring on a long-distance strike just under four minutes into the game. In the ninth minute, Sam Flello scored to give the Bees a 2-0 advantage. In the 14th minute, Johnson added his second goal of the game and the rout was on.

Starting in the 24th minute, St. Ambrose scored four goals in a 16-minute stretch. One goal by Charlie Leinart and two goals by Jörn Reck capped off a six-goal first half performance from the Bees.

In the 72nd minute, Tackett opened the scoring in the second half, with an assist from Ricardo Ronconi. In the 88th minute, Lucas Pizani assisted Eli Elliott to account for the final 8-0 score.

Bauer earned the shutout win, turning away the one shot he faced. The Bees held a 19-2 advantage in shots during the game.

The Bees next game is against Viterbo in Lacrosse, Wis., Tuesday at 1 p.m.
