St. Ambrose falls at Trinity Christian

St. Ambrose men's soccer scored early but couldn't hold on as they dropped a conference matchup against Trinity Christian 4-2 Saturday afternoon in Palos Heights, Ill.

The Bees got on the board quickly, with Hayden Newton scoring just over a minute into the match. Trinity Christian came right back, scoring in the 3rd minute to even up the game at 1-all. Newton had a chance to put SAU back in the lead, but his shot in the 11th minute hit off the crossbar. Sam Flello's header attempt was saved by the Troll keeper in the 12th minute. Aden Grudzinski stopped Trinity Christian shots in the 19th and 25th minutes to keep the game even before the home team took the lead. The Trolls gained a 2-1 advantage in the 32nd minute on a goal from Christian Fernando Rosales and would take that lead into halftime.

Trinity Christian added to their lead in the 61st minute, with Rosales scoring again for a 3-1 score. St. Ambrose would get a goal back in the 73rd minute, as Flello found the back of the net to make it a 3-2 game. The Trolls were able to push their lead back to two in the 81st minute for a 4-2 advantage. Nevan Libert had one final chance for the Bees in the 85th minute, but his shot was saved.

Grundzinski finished with six saves in the loss. Flello had three shots, while Newton, Libert, and Dylan Ollendieck recorded two.

Up next for St. Ambrose is St. Francis (Ill.) on Wednesday, October 18 at 6 p.m. in Davenport.
