Bees unable to hang on to early lead at Roosevelt

St. Ambrose men's soccer was unable to hold on to an early lead Tuesday night at Morris Field, leading to a 3-1 defeat against Roosevelt. The Bees were outshot 22-6 in the match.

SAU got the lead in the 10th minute when Hayden Newton found Zac Monnet for the score. Aden Grudzinski made five saves against the Lakers in the first half before the home team found the back of the net in the 33rd minute to tie up the match at one-all. Charlie Leinart had an opportunity for the Fighting Bees in the 39th minute, but his shot was saved. Roosevelt would take the lead in the 43rd minute for a 2-1 halftime score.

RU added to their lead in the 66th minute to go up 3-1. Ryan Evans had the lone shot for SAU in the second half, which came in the 90th minute.

Grudzinski finished with eight saves in the loss. Monnet had two shots, and Leinart, Evans, Justin Tackett, and Hunter Lillie each had one.

Next up for St. Ambrose is Trinity Christian on Saturday, October 14 at 2:30 p.m. in Palos Heights, Ill.
