SAU gets shutout win over Indiana Northwest

St. Ambrose men's soccer scored a goal in each half, and the defense allowed just three shots on target to claim a 2-0 victory over Indiana Northwest Wednesday night in Davenport.

The Bees got on the board in the 13th minute as Jörn Reck found Owen Gannaway for the 1-0 lead. Zac Monnet and Ryan Evans had the other shot attempts for SAU in the first half but both were off the mark, and St. Ambrose would take a one-goal halftime lead.

St. Ambrose pressed for another goal early in the second half, but Gannaway's shot in the 47th minute was saved, and Monnet's attempt in the 48th was blocked. SAU's next chance didn't come until the 68th minute as Justin Tackett's shot was blocked. Zach Bauer stopped a RedHawk shot attempt in the 75th minute to keep the Bees in the lead. The home team doubled their lead in the 87th minute when Dillon Stickelmaier found Hunter Lillie for the goal to take the 2-0 win.

Bauer finished with three saves in the win. The SAU backline of Keaton Johnson, Brady Butler, Lucas Pizani, and Thomas Gaither blocked four of Indiana Northwest's shot attempts. Lillie had four shots, followed by Monnet with three, and Gannaway and Pizani with two. Johnson, Tackett, Evans, Eli Elliott, and German Worm also recorded shot attempts.

St. Ambrose will face Holy Cross next on Saturday, October 7 at noon in Davenport.
