St. Ambrose draws against Hannibal-LaGrange

St. Ambrose men's soccer faced Hannibal-LaGrange Wednesday evening in Davenport. The Bees went up 2-0 but couldn't hang on, leading to a 2-2 draw at the St. Vincent's Athletic Complex.

SAU took the lead only five minutes into the game. A shot from Justin Tackett was saved by the Trojans keeper, but Zac Monnet collected the rebound and slotted the ball into the goal for an early 1-0 advantage. Zach Bauer kept the Bees ahead in the 15th minute, making a save on a Hannibal-LaGrange shot. The visitors almost tied the match in the 41st minute, but the attempt hit the crossbar. Dillon Stickelmaier had a chance for St. Ambrose at the end of the half, but his shot was saved to keep the scoreline at 1-0 heading into the second half.

The Bees added to their lead in the 55th minute. Monnet found Sam Flello for the goal making it 2-0. The Trojans would get one back in the 69th minute on a shot from Yamil Herrera and tied the game at 2-all in the 82nd minute with a score from Jorge Galindo. SAU had two chances to get the lead back, but Tackett's shot was saved, and Flello's went wide.

Bauer was credited with four saves. Tackett had four shots, and Monnet and Flello had three. Stickelmaier, Nevan Libert, Ryan Evans, and Hayden Newton also recorded shots for St. Ambrose.

SAU will travel to No. 25 Olivet Nazarene on September 20 for the first CCAC contest of the season. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
