Monnet scores, SAU draws Waldorf

St. Ambrose men's soccer took an early lead Saturday night, but Waldorf's late goal in the first half led to a 1-1 draw in Muscatine, Iowa.

Zac Monnet put the Bees ahead 1-0 in the fifth minute of play. Zach Bauer made a save in the ninth minute to keep SAU in the lead. Bauer came up big for St. Ambrose in the 25th minute, saving a penalty kick from the Warriors to keep the scoreline at 1-0. Monnet, Justin Tackett, Owen Gannaway, and German Worm had chances for the Bees after the PK save, but none could find the net. Waldorf tied the game in the 45th minute for a 1-1 halftime score.

SAU tried to get a winner in the second half, recording 15 shots and 10 corner kicks in the period. The best chance came from Monnet in the 55th minute, but the shot hit off the post. Aidan Judd had two chances late, but the game would end in a 1-1 draw.

Bauer was credited with four saves in the match. Monnet had seven shots, while Judd and Hunter Lillie each had three.

SAU will return home on Wednesday, September 13th when they face Hannibal - LaGrange at 5 p.m.
