Elliot scores in season opening loss against Upper Iowa

St. Ambrose men's soccer opened up their season Friday night in Fayette, Iowa taking on Upper Iowa. Eli Elliott put the Bees ahead in the 57th minute, but SAU couldn't hang on as the Peacocks scored five goals to take the 5-1 win.

Zach Bauer made four of his seven saves in the first half to keep the game at zeros heading to the second half.

In the 57th minute, Keaton Johnson found Elliot for the Bee score and a 1-0 lead. But Upper Iowa answered right back, scoring just three minutes later for the 1-1 tie. Things would not get better for St. Ambrose as a red card in the 61st minute put the Bees down to 10 men. The Peacocks got a goal soon after, scoring in the 63rd minute for a 2-1 lead. The home team added scores in the 77th, 79th, and 86th minutes for the 5-1 final.

Elliott, Owen Gannaway, Lucas Pizani, Roberto Medrano, and German Worm recorded shots on goal for St. Ambrose.

The Bees will have their home opener next, facing Mount Mercy on September 6th at 7 p.m. at the St. Vincent's Athletic Complex.
