Early goal stings Bees

Trinity International converted a penalty kick in the 3rd minute, and that's all they would need as St. Ambrose fell 1-0 to the Trojans Saturday in Deerfield, Ill. The Bees are now 4-9-2 overall and 3-6-2 in the CCAC. TIU moves to 9-6-1 overall and 6-3-1 in conference.

After a handball was called in the box on SAU, Trinity International's Trenton Garside scored the penalty to give TIU a 1-0 lead at the 2:08 mark. St. Ambrose got chances from Ryan Evans and Joseph Gaither Jr., but both shots were saved by the Trojan keeper. Kai Domagala kept the Bees in the game with his save in the 20th minute. SAU would have five more chances in the first half to find the tying goal, but they would head into halftime down one.

Hayden Newton had the first two chances for St. Ambrose in the second half, but his shot in the 60th minute and his header in the 63rd were each blocked. The Bees searched for the tying goal until the very end as Jorn Reck had a chance in the 89th minute and Brady Butler had one in the 90th minute, but neither could find the back of the net as SAU would fall 1-0.

Domagala finished with five saves in the loss. Newton had three shots, and Alex Perez had two. SAU had a slight edge in shots (14-12) and corner kicks (5-3).

Up next for St. Ambrose is the regular-season home finale on Tuesday, October 25th. The Bees will take on the Jaguars of Governors State at 7 p.m.
