Evans nets game-winner to defeat RedHawks

A goal from Ryan Evans in the 41st minute was all St. Ambrose needed Tuesday afternoon to take down the Indiana Northwest RedHawks 1-0 in Crown Point, Ind. With the win, SAU moves to 4-6-2 overall and 3-3-2 in the CCAC. IU NW drops to 3-9 overall and 0-8 in the conference.

The Bees were on the attack from the start with Jorge Brizuela, Ethan Holke, and Brady Butler recording shots in the first 15 minutes. Zach Bauer made a stop on Indiana Northwest's Francisco Torres to keep the game even. The RedHawks managed two more shot attempts before SAU got the breakthrough. Amah Ajavon found Evans for the score in the 41st minute to put St. Ambrose ahead 1-0. Justin Tackett and Butler each had chances to increase the SAU lead before the halftime whistle.

St. Ambrose's defense held strong in the second half, allowing just one shot in the period by the RedHawks. Tackett, Jorn Reck, and Ajavon each had an opportunity on net, but the IU Northwest keeper turned their shots away. The RedHawks had one last chance with a corner kick in the 90th minute, but the Bees closed it out to take the 1-0 victory.

Bauer was credited with two saves in the win. Tackett had three shots and Butler two. Alex Perez and Owen Gannaway also recorded attempts for SAU.

St. Ambrose returns home on Saturday, October 15th for Senior Day. The Bees will face the Judson Eagles at 1 p.m.
