Last-minute equalizer caps six-goal thriller

St. Ambrose and St. Francis (Ill.) played to a 3-3 draw Saturday afternoon at the St. Vincent Athletic Complex in Davenport. This result puts the Bees at 3-6-2 overall and 2-3-2 in CCAC play, and puts St. Francis at 4-6-2 overall and 2-4-1 in the CCAC.

The Bees showed great resiliency as they were able to come from behind on three separate occasions in the match. St. Francis opened the scoring in the 16th minute through an Anthony Derka goal. Lucas Carbognin Pizani was able to equalize from a corner kick in the 45th minute to make it 1-1 going into halftime.

In the second half, St. Francis restored their lead in the 77th minute with a Cameron Schroder goal. In the 82nd minute, the Bees were awarded a penalty kick. Jorge Brizuela made no mistake from the spot to tie the game at two. In the 89th minute, the Fighting Saints were able to restore their lead again. But the lead would last less than a minute. Owen Gannaway's strike in the 90th minute found the back of the net to bring the Bees level and tie the match at 3.

The Bees are in action next on Tuesday when they travel to Indiana Northwest before returing home next Saturday to take on Judson.
