Bees roll over Wave for first conference victory

St. Ambrose earned their first CCAC victory of the year Saturday afternoon, defeating the Calumet Wave 5-2 in Whiting, Ind.

The Bees (2-5-1, 1-2-1 CCAC) had a man advantage for almost the whole game as a Wave (2-4-1, 1-3 CCAC) defender was shown a red card in the 3rd minute. But it was the home team that got on the scoreboard first. Calumet went up 1-0 in the 22nd minute on a score from Sergio Reyes. SAU found the tying goal in the 31st minute. Jorge Brizuela's corner kick bounced in the box and found its way to Joe Casebolt. Casebolt was able to get a foot on the ball and score his first of the season. After a save by Zach Bauer in the 37th minute to keep the teams even, Joseph Gaither Jr. sent a ball into the box from the right side that found an unmarked Ryan Evans to give the Bees a 2-1 lead with 38:03 on the clock. Bauer would make another save before the end of the half, as St. Ambrose took a one-goal lead into the break.

St. Ambrose would take a 3-1 lead in the 49th minute as Jorn Reck's free kick got around the Calumet wall and beat the keeper to the near post. The Wave would make it a one-score game in the 54th minute with a goal from Tarrel Mcray, but the Bees pushed the lead back to two in the 56th minute. Brizuela slotted a pass to Trent Fitzpatrick who found the back of the net to make it 4-2. Fitzpatrick would add another in the 65th minute for the 5-2 final.

SAU had a 27-5 advantage in shots and had nine corner kicks to Calumet's none. Bauer finished with two saves in the win. Fitzpatrick and Hayden Newton recorded five shots each.

Next up for the Bees is Trinity Christian on Tuesday, September 27th in Palos Heights, Ill. at 4 p.m.
