Bees play SXU to scoreless draw

St. Ambrose had a man-up advantage for 30 minutes, and a two-man up advantage for the final two-and-a-half minutes, but couldn't find the back of the net as they ended 0-0 against Saint Xavier Saturday night in Davenport. The Bees are now 1-4-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the conference while the Cougars are 1-4-2 overall and 0-1-1 in the conference.

A total of 33 fouls were called between both teams, including two red cards by the visitors and six total yellows. After a Cougar was sent off in the 60th minute, SAU went on the attack. Owen Gannaway and Oliver Aigner had chances on goal, but the attempts were saved by the SXU keeper. St. Ambrose's best chance came in the 69th minute, when Jorge Brizuela's shot from outside the box hit off the crossbar. Justin Tackett forced the Cougar goalie into another save in the 72nd minute. Zach Bauer made one of his three saves in the 85th minute to keep the game even. Another Cougar was sent off in the 88th minute, and SAU had one final chance to find a winner, but Trent Fitzpatrick's header from a Alonso Salinas corner kick was saved, and the game ended 0-0.

St. Ambrose had the first three chances of the match, but Tackett and Fitzpatrick had their attempts blocked in the 5th and 10th minutes. Fitzpatrick had another opportunity in the 11th, but his shot was saved. Joseph Gaither Jr. had his attempt turned away in the 23rd minute, and Tackett had another shot saved in the 25th minute. Bauer turned away a Saint Xavier shot in the 35th minute as the teams would be scoreless at the halftime whistle.

Bauer finished with three saves. Fitzpatrick recorded four shots, Tackett three, while Brizuela and Gaither Jr. had two. Eli Elliott and Adian Bagley also had shots for St. Ambrose.

SAU will look for their first conference victory on Wednesday night in Davenport when they take on Roosevelt University at 7 p.m.
