St. Ambrose drops non-conference contest against Mount Mercy

St. Ambrose struggled Saturday night at Hadzic Field against Mount Mercy. The Mustangs put up three first-half goals on their way to a 4-0 victory over the Bees in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

SAU is now 1-2 on the year, while MMU moves to 2-0-1.

Mount Mercy scored in the 12th minute on a penalty kick after a foul was called in the box on St. Ambrose. The Mustangs found the back of the net just seven minutes later to take a 2-0 lead less than 20 minutes into the game. Alex Perez recorded the only shot for SAU in the first half, but his attempt in the 24th minute went high. MMU got a goal late in the half to take a 3-0 halftime lead.

Zach Bauer kept the SAU deficit at three after making back-to-back saves in the 48th minute. The Bees had a chance for a score in the 55th minute, but Justin Tackett's shot went wide of the net. Mount Mercy put in their final score of the game in the 63rd minute. St. Ambrose had chances from Parker Beck and Eli Elliott, but both missed the mark for the 4-0 final. 

Bauer finished with five saves in the loss. Kai Domagala also played in goal for St. Ambrose but recorded no saves. Mount Mercy had 16 shots to SAU's five. 

The Bees will play their final non-conference match on Wednesday, September 7th against Waldorf in Forest City, Iowa. The game is scheduled for 5 p.m.
