Newton scores for SAU in loss to CSC

St. Ambrose got off to a slow start Wednesday night in Canton, Mo., and the Bees could never quite recover. Culver-Stockton put in two goals in each half to take a 4-1 victory. SAU drops to 1-1 early in the season, while CSC goes to 2-1.

The home team scored twice in less than 30 seconds to take a 2-0 lead just eight minutes into the game. Trent Fitzpatrick tried to cut into the Wildcat lead, but his shot attempt was saved in the ninth minute. Kai Domagala kept the deficit at two after making a save on Culver-Stockton's Matias Maderia in the 12th minute. The Bees got their goal in the 24th minute. Ryan Evans found Hayden Newton for the score to make it 2-1. Late in the half, SAU had chances to tie it up, but Jorge Brizuela's attempt was high and Lucas Carbognin Pizani's shot was wide.

Domagala kept the Bees in the game to start the second half, making a save on CSC's Parsa Asadpoor in the 49th minute. Asadpoor would be able to beat the St. Ambrose keeper in the 51st minute to give Culver-Stockton a 3-1 lead. Sam Flello and Owen Gannaway got off shots in the 52nd and 53rd minutes, but both were saved by the Wildcat goalie. Brizuela in the 59th and Alex Perez in the 61st had their attempts turned away as well. Culver-Stockton would add a goal in the 83rd minute to account for the 4-1 final.

Domagala finished with three saves in the loss. Pizani, Justin Tackett, Fitzpatrick, and Brizuela each recorded two shots in the match.

St. Ambrose will travel to Mount Mercy on Saturday, September 3rd for a 7 p.m. game.
