Two first-half goals not enough for St. Ambrose

Two first-half goals not enough for St. Ambrose

Justin Tackett and Rory Hannon tallied first-half goals for St. Ambrose on Saturday, but it wasn't enough as the Bees fell 4-2 against Holy Cross in Notre Dame, Ind. The loss drops SAU to 4-4-2 overall, and 1-4-1 in the conference.

The home team got on the board just 10 minutes into the game when Jeffrey Harper found the back of the net. Holy Cross would double their lead six and a half minutes later on a goal from Victor Sellu. St. Ambrose would get a goal back in the 29th minute when Blake Biery found Tackett for the score. Tackett had a chance for the tie in the 31st minute, but his shot was saved. The Saints would regain their two-goal lead when Gabe Nyenka scored in the 33rd minute. But just a minute later, Hannon would score for the Bees to make it a 3-2 game at halftime.

Holy Cross got another goal from Harper in the 53rd minute to make it a two-goal game. SAU had opportunities in the 54th minute and 61st minute to get a goal back, but each attempt was saved by the Saints. The Bees had two chances late in the game to score, but Hannon was turned away each time.

Hannon had five shots, Tackett four, and Hayden Newton and Spencer Pyle each had two. Piercarlo Ricossa made four saves in the loss.

St. Ambrose will be back in action on Tuesday, October 5th at 7 p.m. when they take on Lincoln College in Davenport.
