Bees play to scoreless draw against Trolls

St. Ambrose totaled 25 shots on Wednesday night but couldn't find the back of the net as they played to a scoreless draw against Trinity Christian at the St. Vincent's Athletic Complex in Davenport.

The teams traded shot attempts to start the match. Rory Hannon's header was saved in the 7th minute, and Piercarlo Ricossa made a save for the Bees in the 15th minute. SAU (4-3-2, 1-3-1 CCAC) had three straight corner kick chances starting in the 23rd minute, but headers from David Kramer and Mitchell Petrosky went wide, and Joseph Gaither's shot attempt went high. Trinity Christian (4-6-1, 2-3-1 CCAC) placed their goal opportunities wide in the 28th minute and high in the 29th, and the teams would head into halftime scoreless.

Justin Tackett had the first chance for SAU in the second half, but his shot went wide in the 49th minute. Sam Flello and Joseph Gaither put in corner kicks in the 54th and 55th minutes, but the Bees could not connect. Jorge Brizuela got a shot off in the 63rd minute, but it was saved by Giorgos Christodoulo. Ricossa kept the game tied in the 66th minute, making a save on Trinity's Emmanuel Iradukunda. St. Ambrose got a late chance from Jacob Mulvihill in the 85th minute, but Christodoulo stopped the attempt to send the game into overtime.

Blake Biery got the first chance in the first overtime, but his attempt was saved by the Trinity keeper. The Bees got a man advantage with five minutes to go in the period as a Trinity player was shown a second yellow card. SAU went on the attack with Keaton Johnson, Hannon, and Tackett all having opportunities to score but never finding a score. St. Ambrose pushed for a winner in the second overtime, outshooting the visitors 7-2 in the period. But they could not capitalize on the man advantage as the game would end 0-0.

Ricossa was credited with four saves in the draw. Hannon led the way with six shots while Tackett had four and Brizuela three.

SAU will travel to Holy Cross College on Saturday for a 1 p.m. match.
