SAU drops conference contest against ONU

St. Ambrose suffered their first defeat of the season and dropped their conference opener Wednesday night against Olivet Nazarene. The Bees (3-1-1, 0-1 CCAC) could only summon three shots on goal, while the Tigers (5-1, 2-0 CCAC) scored four goals for the 4-0 win in Bourbonnais, Ill.

ONU got on the board early, scoring in the 5th minute of the game for a 1-0 lead. Miguel Bayma made a stop in the 14th minute, but the Tigers added another goal just two minutes later. A shot attempt by Blake Biery was blocked in the 22nd minute, and SAU was unable to get on the end of a Ricky Rueda corner kick. The home team was able to tack on another goal a minute later. Joseph Gaither had his chance saved in the 35th minute, and the Bees would head into the break down 3-0.

Rory Hannon had an opportunity to get on the board for the Bees in the 50th minute, but his opportunity was turned away. Piercarlo Ricossa garnered a save against the Tigers in the 53rd minute, but they would score their fourth just a minute later. SAU stayed tough after going down to 10 men in the 57th minute but ultimately could not come back from the four-goal deficit.

Bayma and Ricossa split time in goal, making five and three saves respectively. Six Bees played 70 plus minutes - Justin Tackett, Hannon, Biery, Mitchell PetroskyTobi Bierle, and Nathan Lukasik

St. Ambrose will look to get their first conference win on Saturday against Saint Xavier in Chicago. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
