Early goals give Bees win in home opener

St. Ambrose got off to a fast start on Tuesday night against Culver-Stockton. The Bees (2-0-1) scored two early goals and added one in the second half to take down the Wildcats (1-1) in their home opener.

Spencer Pyle found the back of the net for SAU in the 5th minute off a corner kick from David Morsey. Just three minutes later, Justin Tackett found Mitchell Petrosky who rocketed a shot past CSC's keeper. Ricky Rueda had a chance to add to the Ambrose lead in the 12th minute, but his attempt was saved. Miguel Bayma made two saves late in the first half to give the Bees a 2-0 halftime lead.

Bayma had a save early in the second half to keep the shutout intact. SAU added to their lead in the 65th minute when Hayden Newton pounced on the ball after Culver-Stockton's goalie fumbled it. The Wildcats' best chance came in the 87th minute when Nick Hartzell hit the post.

Bayma was credited with four saves in the win, and the Bees' defense allowed just nine shots. Five St. Ambrose players played the full 90 - Bayma, Brady Butler, David KramerTobi Bierle, and Nathan Lukasik

SAU will be back at home on September 4th and take on Mount Mercy at 6 p.m.
