Three Bees score in win over Fighting Saints

St. Ambrose ended a four-game losing streak on Wednesday night in Joliet, Ill. The Bees (3-9, 2-9 CCAC) scored their most goals in a game this season and came oh so close to a shutout against the University of St. Francis (7-5-2, 6-5-1 CCAC) defeating the Saints, 3-1.

Neither team could get a goal in the early going, as USF had two shots blocked and two others missed in the first 10 minutes. SAU had three chances to get on the scoresheet in a span of five minutes, but Daniel Reinoso's two shots and Rory Hannon's attempt went wide. The Bees would find the back of the net in the 21st minute as Hannon headed home a cross from Justin Tackett. Piercarlo Ricossa kept the home team off the board making saves in the 26th, 41st, and 42nd minutes. St. Ambrose would double up their lead just before the halftime whistle as Reinoso got a goal in the 43rd minute off a deflection to give SAU a 2-0 lead.

Less than 10 minutes into the second half, the Bees would add another goal. A Tackett throw-in found its way through the USF defense, and Nathan Lukasik got a pass to Spencer Pyle for the score. SAU would have chances to grow their lead, but Noah Secor, Pyle, and Tackett had their shots saved. The home team would end the shutout in the 86th minute as Ricossa made an initial save but couldn't corral the rebound as Amin Mizyed would get the goal. Reinoso got off one final attempt in the 89th minute as the game would end 3-1 to the Bees.

St. Ambrose outshot the Saints 19-17, with 12 of those shots being on goal for the Bees. Ricossa made six saves in the win. Reinoso had eight shots, five on goal, Hannon had four shots, and Pyle had two.

SAU will play its final home game on Saturday, April 10th at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
