Comeback attempt falls short against Lakers

Daniel Reinoso scored two second-half goals, but SAU's comeback fell just short as Roosevelt would come away with a 3-2 victory on Tuesday afternoon in Davenport.

The Lakers got chances early in the game, but Piercarlo Ricossa made saves in the 17th and 19th minutes to keep the teams even at zero. Roosevelt would eventually breakthrough in the 23rd minute on a goal from Antoniou Evagoras. St. Ambrose only had one shot attempt in the first-half with Juan Diego missing high in the 33rd. Ricossa kept the game at 1-0 heading into halftime, making a save in the 44th minute.

The second half would start with a flurry as the teams traded goals in a span of three minutes. Roosevelt would add to their lead in the 48th minute, getting a goal from Eduardo Hernandez. But the Bees would answer right back. Reinoso took a free-kick and placed the ball over the keeper for an SAU goal a minute later. Clever Zambrano would give the Lakers a 3-1 lead in the 50th minute scoring from a header. Reinoso would score his second of the day from a penalty kick in the 55th. Ricossa made two saves in the 61st minute to keep the deficit at one. St. Ambrose had a great chance to even up the score in the 63rd minute, but Diego's shot was saved and Reinoso's follow-up hit the post. The Bees would push for an equalizer late, but Diego had his shot attempt blocked in the 90th minute.

Ricossa was credited with eight saves in the loss. Reinoso had five shot attempts, Diego had four, and Rory Hannon had two.

SAU will travel to Olivet Nazarene on Saturday, April 3rd for another CCAC match. Game time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
