SAU suffers defeat against Saints

St. Ambrose traveled to South Bend, Ind. on Saturday afternoon to take on the Holy Cross Saints. The home team came away with a 5-1 win dropping the Bees to 2-7 overall and 1-7 in the CCAC.

SAU got the scoring started in the 10th minute - Juan Diego took a corner kick, and after multiple deflections, Rory Hannon was able to find the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. The Saints would find an answer in the 25th minute from Jeffrey Harper. Justin Tackett has a chance to help St. Ambrose regain the lead in the 30th minute, but his shot attempt was saved. The Bees would have to play with only 10 men from the 33rd minute on due to a red card. SAU would be able to head into the half even at one.

The home team would take advantage of playing a man-up scoring just six minutes into the second half. Holy Cross would add another in the 57th from a penalty kick to go up 3-1. Tackett would have a chance to get a goal back in the 67th minute, but again his chance was saved. The Bees never threatened again, and Holy Cross would add two more goals to account for the final score.

Piercarlo Ricossa made six saves in the loss.

St. Ambrose will face Roosevelt University next at home on March 30th with a 3 p.m. start.
