Bees fall to Lynx 2-1

Set pieces gave the Fighting Bees issues on Wednesday night. Lincoln College would score twice from free-kicks and would defeat St. Ambrose 2-1 at St. Vincent's Athletic Complex in Davenport, Iowa.

The Lynx got on the board early, scoring in the 6th minute with a goal from AJ Agbede after an SAU foul. St. Ambrose's best chance came from Mitchell Petrosky in the 18th minute, but his attempt was saved. Piercarlo Ricossa would stop a Lincoln opportunity in the 24th minute to keep the deficit at one. Neither team got many chances after that as the game would head to halftime with the Bees down 1-0.

Justin Tackett would have a chance to get on the board early in the second half, but his chance was saved by Adam Dempsey. SAU just missed tying the game in the 58th minute as Daniel Reinoso's shot hit off the crossbar. The Lynx would take a two-goal lead in the 62nd minute off another free-kick with Ivan Vlek finding the back of the net. St. Ambrose would get a goal back in the 82nd minute from Reinoso, but the Bees couldn't find another as they would fall 2-1.

Eight cards were handed out, and a total of 41 fouls were called as it was a chippy game throughout. Ricossa made two saves in the loss.

Before the game, the Bees remembered former men's soccer player Caio Mesquita with a moment of silence. Mesquita passed away earlier this month, three years after sustaining serious injuries in an automobile accident.

St. Ambrose will travel to Holy Cross on Saturday with the game scheduled for 2 p.m.
