Pyle's goal gives SAU first conference victory

The St. Ambrose men's soccer team traveled to Calumet St. Joseph on Saturday morning in search of their first CCAC victory. The Bees did just that, defeating the Crimson Wave 1-0 in East Chicago, Indiana.

SAU had two attempts to score in the early going, but Justin Tackett's shot was blocked and Rory Hannon's was saved by Jose Molina. Tackett had another opportunity in the 8th minute, but the chance went wide. The Bees finally found the back of the net in the 11th minute as Hannon found Spencer Pyle for the 1-0 lead. Piercarlo Ricossa kept CCSJ off the board making two saves in the 19th and 20th minutes. St. Ambrose had chances late in the half to grow their lead, but attempts from Blake Biery, Daniel Reinoso, and Juan Diego were all saved.

The offense quieted down in the second-half for SAU as they only managed five shots. But the defense came up big for the Bees, shutting out the Crimson Wave. Ricossa would make two more saves in the 78th minute and the 86th minute to record a clean sheet as St. Ambrose would hold on for the 1-0 victory.

The Bees outshot their opponents 20-7 and had a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks. Ricossa made four saves in the win and recorded his first shutout of the year.

St. Ambrose will return home on March 24th to take on Lincoln College at 6 p.m. at the St. Vincent's Athletic Complex.
